The best information technology for dairy farms
management and population statistics

The information is very important because it can be used as feedback, and as tool to find weaknesses and strengths of the farms and/or the region. It also allows detecting problems and finding possible solutions.

VAMPP Bovino 1.0 provides to their users essential information to work efficiently and effectively. VAMPP helps to organise and maintain the animal records on a daily basis. This package will provide an excellent control of the data being used and will store it efficiently and safely; then, the system will process the data quickly, providing the users the necessary information to have an accurate control of production, and health care of cattle.

The Summary will be provided information on the weaknesses and strengths of each animal and the herd. The Analyses will allow the user to identify the causes of the detected problems which in turn will permit making the right intervention decisions. The Action List facilitates the daily planning, for example it provided information about: cows to dry out, cows for calving, list of animal for reproductive exams, etc.

It would take many pages to describe the capacity of VAMPP; these are some of aspects that the system can offer: animal inventory, semen inventory, milk production records, heifers' growth, reproduction events, diseases, udders health and mastitis statistics, vaccinations, body condition scores, etc. Other important aspects that can be also mentioned are: genealogy, lineal classification, and reports for breed associations. It includes a referential database from around 8000 international bulls which is constantly updated.

Milk yield can also be evaluated using corrected parameters for lactation number, stage of lactation, calving season, region and breed:
...Corrected daily milk yield is useful for nutritional and health problem detection
...Relative value of the cow facilitates to comparison among cows

Heifers growth can be evaluated against referential curves. Both, milk correction factors and the referential growth curves have been calculated from local databases. The Pasture and Nutrition module generates parameters for basic evaluation of the grazing and nutritional strategies. It also calculates some economic figures.

VAMPP also has an integrated data quality control system which ensure the consistency of the database and therefore the consistency of the analyses. The quality control filters have been developed throughout more than ten years of work in Costa Rica and Central America.

VAMPP is a versatile and flexible application that satisfies different information needs for many users:
...Farmers (individuals and groups)
...Technicians
...Extension services
...Breed associations
...Research and statistics centres
...Consultant companies

For individual farmers, VAMPP is a simple, practical and user friendly software which easily fits to a broad range of farms characteristics. VAMPP can also be an excellent tool for organisations and research centres because it can perform as database. It can handle a great number of farms rather easily.
VAMPP was originally developed in Holland and it has gained the leadership in the market (such as Canada and Central America). Since 1987, it has been constantly reviewed at the Universidad Nacional in Costa Rica and thanks to all the feedback from private and international users an form research, important changes have improved it; currently, there are many countries using it, for example: Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Croatia among some.
